Dichroic Filter Coatings

Thin film coatings are extremely thin layers of materials (such as TiO2, SiO2, MgF2, gold, aluminum etc…), which can be applied to the surface of a substrate like glass, metal or germanium, to effect a change in its optical properties. Effects such as reflection, refraction, anti reflection and conductivity can be produced and modified by expert calibration of the number of layers and the respective thicknesses of the thin film coatings in relation to the incidental wavelengths of light.

Dichroic Filter Coatings (also known as Color Separation Filter Coatings):

Reynard  Corporation provides a dichroic coating for commercial, aerospace  and military applications. Dichroic filters are sometimes known  as color separation filter coatings because their purpose is to  separate incoming visible light into separate colors or into beams of  different wavelengths. Dichroic coatings achieve this color or  wavelength separation with a much higher degree of accuracy than  conventional filters.

Dichroic Filter Coating Applications:

Applications  of dichroic filters or color separation filters include color correction and  light balancing, and they are found in architectural, studio and  theatrical lighting, color TV or camcorder cameras, automated color  sorting systems, color enlargers and color projectors.

Dichroic Filter Coating Process:

Our dichroic coatings are applied in a vacuum deposition process. The application of the thin film dichroic coating in layers of varying number and thickness determine the precise wavelengths that are separated or passed through.
