The polka-dot beamsplitter has a constant reflection to transmission ratio over its 250 to 2500 nm spectral range. This optical device consists of an ultraviolet grade fused silica substrate with a vacuum deposited aluminum coating. This coating is applied in a manner that gives the beamsplitter a polka dot appearance. Thus, the beam is split by reflection from the aluminized coating and transmitted through the non-aluminized dot on the uncoated fused silica. This versatile beamsplitter is not angle sensitive and is ideal to split the energy from a radiant source, it is however not recommended for use in imaging systems.
